FreeCell Solitaire Games
FreeCell Solitaire is a single player solitaire game where the objective is
to move all the cards into four ascending suits from Ace to King. Unlike Klondike Solitaire, this game features four unused spaces, called cells, where cards
can be temporarily moved to help you sort the cards into descending piles of
alternating colours (hence the name 'FreeCell'). The initial 52-card deck is
dealt into eight open columns where all the cards are visible from the start of
the game and hence requires slightly more thoughtful gameplay to complete than Klondike Solitaire.
FreeCell Solitaire rose to popularity by being included in many default
installations of the Windows operating system. Many players say they prefer
FreeCell Solitaire to Klondike Solitaire
because, although it initially appears to be a more difficult game, it has been
shown that it is actually possible to complete over 99% of FreeCell games,
compared to less than half for Klondike Solitaire. Being a more puzzle-like
game, FreeCell Solitaire gives players a much fairer challenge and hence is
better measure of the skill of the player.
While FreeCell Solitaire is a great card game, the standard FreeCell
Solitaire game that ships with Windows has vanilla graphics and is
slightly cumbersome to play. A much better game is FreeCell
Wizard which fixes all the problems with the Windows version (like being
unable to save a game in progress) and also features 15 other FreeCell game
variations for extra challenge when you have mastered the standard game.
